Donny Osmond and Osmond Brothers Wish ‘Leader’ Alan a Happy Birthday

On June 22, Alan Osmond — the “leader” and eldest brother who performed in the Osmonds band — turned 76 and many of his family members were sure to wish him a happy birthday on social media. Of course, Donny Osmond shared a video including some fun clips of Al performing back in the 1970s.
He wrote, “Happy birthday to my big brother, Alan, whom we all respectfully called the leader of the band. ❤️”
As the oldest performing sibling, he helped shape the group’s sound, co-writing songs and choreographing routines as well as managing much of their creative direction. Though he rarely sang lead vocals, Alan played piano and guitar and guided the band. Outside of music, Alan served in the California Army National Guard, co-founded the Stadium of Fire celebration and became a motivational speaker.

Merrill Osmond shared for Alan’s special day, “Having spent my life standing beside my brother Alan—watching him, writing with him, and creating alongside him—I want to say for his birthday today how much I marvel at his talents. His gifts have blessed not only our family, but so many others. Please get better soon. Our prayers are with you. Happy birthday, Alan.” Merrill did not share any details on why he hoped Al would get better soon, but Al was diagnosed with progressive multiple sclerosis back in 1987.
Meanwhile Jay Osmond said, “Happy Birthday big Al! It was great to spend some time and visit with you and Suzanne. I hope that you have a fun day!!!!”
Alan has been married to Suzanne Pinegar since 1974 and they have eight sons together. In 2024, he published his autobiography One Way Ticket, reflecting on a life of music, faith and resilience.
