‘Ferris Bueller’ Star Mia Sara Resurfaces After Over a Decade Away From Hollywood

Actress Mia Sara, best known for her portrayal of Sloane Peterson in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, recently returned for her first red carpet in over a decade, following an extended absence from Hollywood. The actress, 57, stars in the new film The Life of Chuck, based on the Stephen King novella of the same name; she plays the grandmother of protagonist Chuck, who is played by Tom Hiddleston, Jacob Tremblay and Benjamin Pajak at different points in the film.
Sara’s last feature films 2011’s Wizard of Oz sequel Dorothy and the Witches of Oz. She gave a rare interview at the time, according to Entertainment Weekly and shared, “I’m mostly retired. Now I’m a mother with a really noisy, difficult house to maintain! I’m a poet, so for the last couple of years that’s what I’ve been focusing on.”

When told that her fans were excited to see her again in 2025, she said, “It feels a little daunting, but I’m very grateful! It’s unexpected.” She added that she came out of retirement specifically to work with the director Mike Flanagan on the film.
“We’ve been such fans, and we met socially, he and the magnificent Kate Siegel, and he just said, ‘Well, don’t you ever really want to work again?'” the actress said. “And I said, ‘Oh, I don’t know.’ He said, ‘Well, what if I offered you something?’ I said, ‘Well, okay, if you offer me something, I’ll do it.'” She said that if Flanagan asks her to work again, she will be there.

What has Mia Sara acted in?
Sara began her career on All My Children in 1983, and gained early attention starring opposite Tom Cruise in Legend (1985). She landed her most famous role, as Sloane, girlfriend to Matthew Broderick’s mischievous Ferris Bueller, in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off the following year.
She later led the miniseries Queenie (1987) and won a Saturn Award for Timecop (1994), starring alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme. Other notable roles include Time Trax, A Stranger Among Us and portraying Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey (2002–2003).
From 1996 to 2002, she was married to Sean Connery‘s son, Jason Connery, with whom she has a son, Dashiell. Dashiell has followed in his parent’s footsteps to become an actor, and appeared in shows such as Tulsa King. In 2010, she married Jim Henson‘s son Brian Henson, with whom she has a daughter.
