Donny Osmond found a way to turn back time for his ongoing residency at Harrah’s Showroom in Las Vegas. With the help of AI technology — and an assist from his own grandson — Osmond performs his 1972 hit “Puppy Love” as a duet with his 14-year-old self during the show.

Osmond created the effect with the creative studio ZeroSpace and recruited grandson Daxton, the 14-year-old son of his son Brandon, to be the body double for his teenaged self.

“It’s his body, my face, and my voice,” Osmond explained in a FOX 5 New York interview. “We took all these samples from when I was 14 years old [and] mapped out my face. … If you could go back in time 53 years and talk to your 14-year-old self, would you do it? Because I do it five nights a week.”

Daxton, who “does musical theater” and “has stage presence,” got a chance to see the result recently, Osmond said on TODAY. “After the show, he said, ‘Grandpa, that was incredible,’” the singer added. “It’s so cool that we can do that technologically now. We’re at that point.”

One of Osmond’s YouTube videos has concert attendees raving about the “Puppy Love” duet, and their reactions make it all worthwhile, Osmond told FOX 5 New York.

“When that curtain opens up, and he’s revealed, and [I’m] standing next to him, the oohs and the ahhs from the audience is like, it’s worth every bit,” he said. “It’s so lifelike. To me, looking at myself, it’s almost, I don’t know, it’s bizarre. … This is me entertaining with me. It’s the strangest thing.”

It’s just a good thing the 14-year-old Osmond agreed to appear in the 67-year-old Osmond’s show. “I had to negotiate with myself,” the pop star quipped. “So I signed the contract, and so did I.”
