Anjelica Huston Opens Up About Private Cancer Battle: “I Managed to Survive It”

Anjelica Huston is opening up about a difficult time in her life. In a new interview with People, the 73-year-old actress confirmed that she was diagnosed with cancer in 2019. While she did not share what type of cancer she battled, she did say that she has been cancer-ree for four years now and finally feels ready to speak about it publicly.
“I managed to survive it, and I’m proud of myself,” she admitted to People. “It’s not something that came lightly. It came as a big shock, but it made me conscious of what I shouldn’t do, of places I shouldn’t go. One of those places was taking life too seriously. So now when the opportunity arises, I laugh, and I try not to make a big deal out of things.”

Now, she’s happy to be “in the clear” and added, “I’m at the four-year mark, and that means so much to me. It’s a fantastic thing. I’m very proud of myself, and I’ve been very lucky. My doctors have been wonderful.”
When Huston found out that she was cancer-free, she said that she simply walked into her garden and “smelled the roses and thought how clever I was.” While she didn’t want to talk about it while she was going through it, now she hopes to open up and uplift those going through a similar hard time.
Now that she is healthy again, Huston has continued working and stars as Lady Tressilian in BritBox’s three-part limited series of Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero. The first episode will premiere on April 16, 2025, and the entire series will air over the following two days. You can watch it on BritBox, which is available through the website or through other streaming services such as Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video.
