How Well Do You Remember ‘Laverne & Shirley?’
It might feel hard to believe, but Laverne & Shirley is 50 years old! The beloved comedy premiered on January 27, 1976, following the adventures of hilarious roommates Shirley Feeney and Laverne DeFazio as they worked together at the Shotz Brewery and tried to get a handle on love and life in 1950s Milwaukee.
The series ran for eight hit seasons—though by the time it ended in 1983, with the action having been moved to California and Cindy Williams’ Shirley no longer on the show, many fans felt it was no longer quite the series they’d first fallen in love with.
But still, five decades later, fans continue to treasure the show—and even though Penny Marshall went on to become one of the most successful female film directors of all time, to many of us, she’ll always be Laverne.
