Christopher Lloyd, Tony Danza and the ‘Taxi’ Cast Reunite to Celebrate Danny DeVito

It has been almost 50 years since Taxi came on to our screens and made us laugh. Several cast members recently reunited to celebrate Taxi star Danny DeVito as he received the Jason Robards Award for Excellence in Theatre at the Roundabout Theatre Company’s 2025 gala on March 10, 2025, at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York. The 80-year-old actor seemed very happy as he posed with his former costars Christopher Lloyd, Carol Kane, Tony Danza, Marilu Henner and Judd Hirsch, plus the show’s co-creator James L. Brooks.
The series originally aired on ABC from September 12, 1978, to May 6, 1982, and then on NBC from September 30, 1982, to June 15, 1983. DeVito starred as Louie De Palma, one of the cabbies who was generally acting grumpy in the dispatch office. Taxi won 18 Emmy awards during its run, including three for Outstanding Comedy Series for its take on different people chasing the American dream while working as cab drivers. The show catapulted its stars into fame and had some big guest stars, including Ted Danson, Rhea Perlman, Tom Selleck, Martin Short, Tom Hanks, and more.

Saturday Night Live alum Rachel Dratch snapped a photo of the reunion while she attended the event. Alongside the photos on Instagram she wrote, “Fun to witness the reunion of the cast of #Taxi last night at the @roundaboutnyc gala event! Missing from this pic, honoree of the night @dannydevito! Pictured are some of the friendliest celebs I ever did meet- @tonydanza @mrchristopherlloyd #juddhirsch #carolkane (And of course, @therealmarilu remembered exactly how long it’s been to the day since Taxi‘s last episode!)”

The award honored DeVito’s contributions to theater. He made his Broadway debut in Arthur Miller‘s The Price in 2017. He most recently starred in Roundabout’s production of I Need That by Theresa Rebeck. While it has only been less than a decade since he’s appeared on Broadway, he has certainly made an impact by winning this award. What do you think of their fun reunion? It is nice to see that they still support each other!
