How to Watch ‘Pink Floyd at Pompeii — MCMLXXII’ Concert Film

Happy 79th birthday to legendary Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour! (Select merch from his official online store is 20% off through March 10!)
We’re also celebrating other big Pink Floyd news: The band’s concert film Pink Floyd at Pompeii — MCMLXXII is getting a major re-release in theaters, IMAX, home video, CD and vinyl.
Filmed in October 1971, Pink Floyd performed in the ruins of the ancient Roman Amphitheatre in Pompeii, Italy, with no audience.
The upcoming new release has been restored from the original 35mm cut negative discovered in the band’s archives. Lana Topham, Pink Floyd’s director of restoration, led a team in preserving, repairing and enhancing the original film with a complete 4K scan.
Filmed in October 1971, the performance marked the very first live concert to take place at Pompeii, and features the vital ‘Echoes,’ ‘A Saucerful of Secrets,’ and ‘One of These Days.’
The Pompeii concert and film marks a pivotal moment in the band’s history. During this time, they were recording what would become their most celebrated album, 1973’s Dark Side of the Moon, and the film includes rare behind-the-scenes footage of the band starting to work on it at Abbey Road Studios.
The film releases in theaters and IMAX beginning April 26 (check here for tickets and showtimes). The IMAX experience is two nights only, April 24 and 27.
The movie will also release on DVD and Blu-ray May 2, and its soundtrack is available on CD and vinyl the same day. Available for preorder at Amazon.
