Heather Locklear recently took a walk down memory lane during an episode of the Melrose Place rewatch podcast iHeartRadio’s Still the Place with her former costars Daphne Zuniga, Laura Leighton and Courtney Thorne-Smith. Not only did she spill some secrets about her time on Melrose Place but her ’80s series T.J. Hooker as well.

Before joining the cast of Melrose Place, Locklear appeared in Aaron Spelling’s shows Dynasty and T.J. Hooker. While joking around about the food on set, Locklear admitted that she used to order a hot dog every single day while filming T.J. Hooker.

“I would order a hot dog every morning,” she said. “I don’t like breakfast so much. I like lunch or dinner for breakfast. Really, yeah, your breakfast hot dog.”

They moved on to talking about how Aaron Spelling called Locklear his “lucky penny.” He never said it to her face, but she heard him say it on Dateline. This was around the same time that Locklear was one of the fans watching the phenomenon that was Melrose Place.

She shared, “I watched the show because there was so much press on it. And I was going, ‘Oh my God, this show is gonna be great … and I wish I could be on it, but I’m too old.’ I was, like, 30. Or almost 30. And you guys were all 20, early 20s.”

But since Spelling thought of Locklear as his “lucky penny,” he soon asked her to join the show, which revolved around a group of people living in a fictional West Hollywood apartment complex. She joined the show as advertising exec Amanda Woodward in 1993, believing that she was only going to be in four episodes. However, ratings improved, and she was added as a main cast member for Season 2.
