’50s singer Fabian Forte, known simply as Fabian, was born on Feb. 6, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This year, he celebrated his 82nd birthday and had a fun day shopping with his wife! He shared photos of his day of celebration on Instagram with his fans. His third wife, former Miss Pennsylvania Andrea Patrick, took him on a shopping spree at a clothing store before they enjoyed a romantic dinner.

In honor of his big day, let’s reminisce about his career. His rise to fame came unexpectedly when, at 14, music producer Bob Marcucci discovered him. With his good looks and smooth voice, Fabian quickly became a teenage heartthrob in the late ’50s. His breakthrough single, “Turn Me Loose” (1959), shot up the charts, solidifying him as one of the top teen idols alongside Frankie Avalon and Bobby Rydell.

Fabian’s popularity wasn’t just about his music. His image was carefully curated to appeal to the teen market, and he became a fixture in teen magazines. Yet, some critics dismissed him as a manufactured pop star, a label that only motivated him to prove them wrong. In addition to his music career, Fabian expanded into acting, starring in films like High Time and making TV appearances. Despite a decline in chart success by the mid-’60s, Fabian kept his career alive by embracing new opportunities, including live performances and television appearances.

As the ’70s and ’80s rolled in, Fabian reinvented himself as a seasoned performer, participating in nostalgia-driven tours with other ’50s and ’60s icons.

These days, he lives on 20 acres in Southwestern Pennsylvania, where he spends his leisure time at home, but he remains active. In addition, he’s on the masthead of the quarterly inspirational lifestyle publication Gladys Magazine, where he works alongside a familiar boss — his editor-in-chief wife, Andrea! His music and acting continued to find an audience, ensuring his place in pop culture. Happy birthday, Fabian!
