One of cinema’s most legendary female badasses is coming back — and according to Foxy Brown star Pam Grier, she’s headed to the small screen. Grier spoke at the Hollywood Show in Burbank, California on Jan. 11, and revealed that a Foxy Brown reboot TV series is in the works. But it won’t be a period piece or rehash the plot of the classic 1974 film; it will follow Foxy into the present day. “It will be 50 years later,” said Grier. “We don’t need any more ’70s redundancy.”

Grier shed a little light on the kind of problems Foxy will be tangling with in the 21st century. “We have a narrative of my journey, and Foxy’s journey, and that she’s international. Her boyfriend was FBI and she evolves,” Grier shared. “Coffey [heroine of her 1973 film Coffey] was the grassroots activist, Foxy is more international … everything that we’re going through now with the billionaires, she’s gonna expose people. And you know, when you know what goes on… the bad guys, they might try to bump you off. So, it’s gonna be more today, and what we’re going through, so we can relate to it.”

Grier told the crowd that throughout her career, she’s been passionate about featuring political messages in her films, including “real questions of who we are, and who we are in classism — and that’s who we really are, the haves and the have nots.” She recalled that she told producers ranging from John Carpenter to Quentin Tarantino to Tim Burton that “there’s a lot of narratives that we can’t force people to read books about. But we can put it in film and entertainment, and play out the information, where people will come to see it.”

Golden Globe nominee Grier, who is 75, remains as active as ever in Hollywood; most recently, she appeared in the 2023 movies Cinnamon and Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, and the 2024 Amazon Prime series Them: The Scare.
