Let the body-swapping commence! Disney is working on a sequel to the 2003 film Freaky Friday starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. Both stars are reprising their roles as mother and daughter and Disney recently shared a sneak peek to confirm that filming has begun and that the film will premiere in theaters in 2025.

The original movie was based on the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers (we can’t forget to mention the 1976 film starring a young Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris) and followed a mother and daughter who don’t get along but one day wake up to find that they’ve switched bodies. They must figure out how to live in each other’s worlds and find out how to change back. Of course, things go awry but they learn more about each other and find ways to see things from the other’s point of view.

Curtis admitted that she kept getting questions about a potential Freaky Friday sequel while promoting Halloween Ends. She shared, “Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.'” Lohan has also confirmed that she would love to do another film with Curtis and said, “Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”

Even though Lohan was out of the spotlight for a while, the two actors remained friends over the years. Curtis revealed one of her favorite scenes from the film and how she always knows if a text is from Lohan. She said, “My strongest memory is the scene where the two of us are in the car eating French fries. Now, if I get a text out of the blue, ‘Hey, Jamie, it’s Linds,’ I say, ‘Prove it. What was the song we were trying to learn the rap to during Freaky Friday?’ If she answers Justin Timberlake’s ‘Like I Love You,’ then I know it’s Lindsay Lohan.”

Elyse Hollander is writing the sequel’s script while Andrew Gunn is producing. Gunn shared that they are trying to work on the idea of Anna’s band Pink Slip returning for the sequel. In April, a casting call was also opened for a teenage girl to play Anna’s 14-year-old daughter named Harper. She is described as “a teen surfer with California vibes with a sharp sense of humor. Harper is in a bit of mood these days because her longtime single mom is set to marry British restaurateur Eric Davies.” According to the audition description, the character Eric has a 14-year-old daughter named Lily and the girls do not get along. In the sequel, Anna and Tess will be switching bodies with Harper and Lily. Reportedly, “Harper should channel ‘Anna’ (Lindsay Lohan) and Lily should channel ‘Tess’ (Jamie Lee Curtis).”
