The 10-film marathon starts at 6 am. All times EST.
6am: Monterey Pop (1969)
In this 1969 music documentary, musicians from the worlds of rock, jazz and blues perform at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival. Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, the Who, Otis Redding, and many more make appearances.
7:30am: Don’t Look Back (1967)
You’ve seen A Complete Unknown; now, it’s time to check out the real thing. In 1965, Bob Dylan toured the United Kingdom and director D.A. Pennebaker was allowed behind the scenes; what resulted was an incredibly intimate glimpses of guarded troubadour’s life.
9:30am: Hard Day’s Night (1964)
This 1964 music doc follows a day in the life of John, Paul, George and Ringo as they navigate various comedic and chaotic situations while preparing for a live TV performance.
11:30am: The Song Remains the Same (1976)
Filmed in 1973 over the course of three nights at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, this documentary features Led Zeppelin performing their classic hits on tour and in fantasy sequences.
2:00pm: Jimi Hendrix (1973)
Made shortly after his death, this doc explores the fascinating and all-too-short life the 1960s rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix, with interviews and concert footage from Woodstock and Monterey Pop.
3:4pm: Tommy (1975)
Cowritten by the iconic rock band The Who and featuring Elton John, Eric Clapton, Keith Moon and Roger Daltrey, this musical (based on the band’s 1969 album) film follows a mute, deaf and blind boy who becomes a pinball wizard and cult figurehead.
5:45pm: Shine a Light (2008)
This documentary is a career-spanning look at the Rolling Stones, with concert footage from their “A Bigger Bang” tour.
8:00pm: That’s Entertainment! (1974)
Fred Astaire, Liza Minnelli, Gene Kelly, and others present clips from classic 1928-58 MGM musicals.
10:30pm: That’s Entertainment! II (1976)
The second installment in the That’s Entertainment trilogy features more classic scenes from MGM’s vast musical library, as well as the addition of comedy and drama films.
1:00am: That’s Entertainment! III (1994)
The third installment in the That’s Entertainment series features scenes from The Hollywood Revue of 1929 and the Oscar-nominated musicals Brigadoon and Singin’ in the Rain, and many more MGM films.
