The holiday season is finally in full swing, so it’s the perfect time for TBSDinner and a Movie to screen A Christmas Story. And in this week’s edition, which airs tonight, Dec. 7 at 8pm ET, hosts Jason Biggs and Jenny Mollen won’t be wishing for a Red Ryder BB gun by themselves — Zack Ward, who played bully Scut Farkus, will be stopping by to reveal what it was really like to work on one of the most popular Christmas movies of all time.

But as you’ll see in the ad below, A Christmas Story wasn’t such a success right away…

On the show, he shares that the movie opened the same weekend as Rambo and initially did not do well in theaters. Later on, people fell in love with the movie by watching it on VHS around Christmas, and passing the film to their friends and family.

When TBS got the rights to the film and finally aired it on television, it actually garnered more viewers than the Super Bowl that year, proving that it was well on its way to becoming a beloved holiday classic.
