Get in the Spirit With NBC’s ‘A Motown Christmas Special’ Featuring Smokey Robinson
NBC is celebrating the smooth music of Motown this holiday season. On Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, at 9pm ET, NBC will air A Motown Christmas cohosted by the legendary Smokey Robinson and newcomer Halle Bailey. The event will feature many exciting performances as well as a sneak peek of the Broadway show MJ: The Musical. It will stream the next day on the streaming service Peacock.
An 11-piece live band will be led by Emmy Award-winning musical director Rickey Minor, helping out Motown legends such as Gladys Knight, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, and The Temptations. Ashanti, Andra Day, BeBe Winans, Jamie Foxx, JoJo, October London, MGK, Pentatonix, Jordin Sparks and the cast of MJ: The Musical are also set to perform during the special event.

Actress and dancer Debbie Allen serves as one of the executive producers and shared, “I’m thrilled to be back in the saddle with Motown and Suzanne de Passe to bring to the world this much-needed holiday family special. The music of Motown has always been magical, and we are going to sing and dance everyone into Christmas joy!”

While there will be some Christmas tunes, fans can expect to hear over 25 of their favorite Motown classics including “Dancing in the Streets” and “My Girl.” Many of the performances are meant to celebrate Motown artists including the late Marvin Gaye.
