Yesterday, John Amos’ family announced his passing, which happened back in August. The star was well known as TV dad James Evans Sr. in the groundbreaking ’70s comedy. While he was only in the first three seasons, as he was fired for becoming too critical of the writing, feeling it didn’t represent Black America correctly, the show went on for three more seasons, until it ended in 1979.
