Which ‘Brady Bunch’ Star Forgot the Show’s 55th Anniversary?
It is hard to believe that The Brady Bunch premiered over 55 years ago, on Sept. 26, 1969. While many of the cast members and fans have been celebrating the special milestone, one of the stars completely forgot about the landmark occasion until recently! Maureen McCormick, who famously played Marcia Brady, admitted that she had no idea it was the 55th anniversary of the show this year.
She said at the recent HollyRod Foundation DesignCares Gala, “It was so funny because I was on Twitter and I saw something about it, and I went, ‘Oh, wow.’ I had no idea. The show will just always hold a super warm spot in my heart.”
Even though McCormick forgot the anniversary, she still remains close with the surviving cast members. Several years ago, the Brady siblings reunited to help renovate the home that served as the backdrop of the series. Ever since, they have been seen together at various conventions and events. McCormick said that she also remains close with Lloyd Schwartz, the son of the show’s creator Sherwood Schwartz.
Perhaps the anniversary slipped her mind because she was focused on celebrating a very personal and admirable milestone: McCormick said that she quit drinking over 40 years ago. She struggled with drug addiction after the show, and later decided to get sober from alcohol as well with her husband’s support.
She said of her marriage to Michael Cummings, “It’s an amazing journey. We’re going on 40 years, which is incredible. I feel very blessed to have him in my life.”
Now tell us, in honor of the show’s 55th anniversary … what is your favorite Brady Bunch episode?
