Outlaw country singer, Farm Aid co-founder and cannabis enthusiast Willie Nelson is 90 years old! He welcomes in a new decade on April 29, 2023, and is having a huge party filled with many of his famous friends to celebrate. Nelson became one of the most notable figures in outlaw country, a subgenre of country music that was created in the 1960s. The success of his albums in the ’70s led to Nelson becoming one of the most popular and well-known country music artists, even today. He’s also acted in over 30 films including Stagecoach, The Dukes of Hazzard, and Red Headed Stranger, and joined the supergroup The Highwaymen with Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, and Waylon Jennings.

This weekend, Nelson is partying hard for his birthday. He is set to perform alongside many other artists including George Strait, Miranda Lambert, Sheryl Crow, Dave Matthews, Tom Jones, Snoop Dogg, and more at Willie Nelson 90, A Star-Studded Concert Celebrating Willie’s 90th Birthday. Celebs such as Woody Harrelson, Helen Mirren, Owen Wilson, and Jennifer Garner will also be in attendance to introduce the acts and pay tribute to the Grammy-award-winning artist.

This celebration proves that he doesn’t plan to slow down or retire in his 90s. Not only is Nelson still touring, but he also owns a cannabis brand called Willie’s Reserve and the biodiesel brand Willie Nelson Biodiesel, which produces biodiesel fuel made from soybean and other vegetable oils. He also released a multi-part documentary this year called Willie Nelson & Family as well as a new album titled I Don’t Know a Thing About Love, which highlighted songs written by Harlan Howard.

It seems Nelson is taking a little break to soak in all of the birthday love after the big concert weekend, but then he is back on the road starting on May 17 and will continue to tour around the country until October. When the tour ends, Nelson’s new book Energy Follows Thought: The Stories Behind My Songs will be released, giving fans a look inside the meanings of over 160 songs in his career. Pre-order the book here.
