The iconic purple dinosaur is returning to screens! Barney’s World is about to bring the joy of Barney and his pals to a whole new generation of kids.

“The goal of Mattel Television Studios is to develop and distribute episodic and long-form content that expands Mattel’s characters and storylines across linear and streaming platforms worldwide,” Mattel’s chief franchise officer Josh Silverman said in a press release. “Barney nurtures the power of love in all of us, and we are thrilled to bring him back to fans all around the world. We hope this modern revival leaves an impression on young audiences, imparting lessons that will positively influence them as they grow up.”

The original show, Barney & Friends, launched in 1988 but went off the air 14 years ago on Nov. 10, 2010. Unlike the original version, which featured real kids (and a young Selena Gomez) and dinosaur costumes, the new Barney’s World is all CGI and set on a playground where Barney is joined by fellow dino friends Billy and Baby Bop. Their best friends David, Mel and Vivie are also along for the ride. It was developed for today’s pre-schoolers, but parents of the current crop of kiddos will most likely feel nostalgic seeing the same sing-along themes they grew up on.

Barney & Friends will premiere Oct. 14 on Max, and Oct. 18 on Cartoon Network.
