Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton is opening up about the band’s recent retirement news. Legendary singer Steven Tyler experienced a vocal injury and the band canceled several shows in order for Tyler to make a full recovery. Unfortunately, even with the best doctors and treatments, he found out that a full recovery is not possible, and Aerosmith decided to hang up the mics and officially retire from touring.

Fans started rumors that Aerosmith may hire a new singer to continue on, much like other bands have done, including Queen and Journey. However, Hamilton confirmed that they would never hire another singer and also explained more about the injury and their decision.

“Let me start by clearing up some information on Steven’s injury,” he said. “We were playing the third show of our Peace Out tour last September [at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York]. During the third song of the set Steven had a fall that resulted in a fracture to his larynx. Somehow he finished the show. Don’t ask me how. It’s a testament to his strength and desire to give the people what they came for.”

He continued, “It wasn’t a case of him blowing his throat out by doing something wrong. He has been healing well and working his ass off to get ready to go back out on the road but it just wasn’t possible. We don’t know what the future holds but it won’t include touring.” As far as a new singer goes, Hamilton put any rumors to rest and said, “There’s been no talk at all about going on the road with another singer. I can’t imagine it.”

For the future, Hamilton said that he likely won’t give up music completely and is working in a new band with some friends. Stay tuned to find out what Hamilton and his other Aerosmith bandmates are up to in the upcoming months.
