Phil Collins May Be Working on New Music for the First Time in Almost 20 Years
If you’ve been hankering for some new music from legendary artist Phil Collins, it sounds like you are in luck. The former singer and drummer for Genesis has released eight studio albums during his career, has been inducted into the Songwriters and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and Disney fans know Collins as the voice of iconic and heartwrenching songs such as “You’ll Be in My Heart.” Now, he is reportedly working on a new album after previously saying that his 2010 album would be his last.
While Collins has not yet confirmed new songs, it seems that producer Simon Napier-Bell spilled some secrets. Napier-Bell is currently working on a documentary about London’s Marquee Club and talked with Collins. He said on Facebook, “Yesterday we filmed Phil Collins at his house by Lake Geneva. He was in top form, full of wicked stories, hugely fun. And he’s just had his studio revamped. For sure, before too long we’re going to hear some new music.”
A few months ago, the 73-year-old made an exciting announcement. He shared that a 30th anniversary box set of his album Both Sides will be released on Sept. 20, 2024. It comes with five vinyl records — two of the vinyls are songs from the remastered original album — plus three feature demos, B-sides and live recordings from the ’90s.
Unfortunately, even if fans do get new music, it isn’t likely that Collins will head out on tour anytime soon. He has been suffering from nerve damage from a spinal injury in 2007, and at his most recent performance in 2022, he was seen performing in a wheelchair.
We certainly hope the rumors are true and will keep you updated on this ongoing story!
