Jack Black Cancels Tenacious D Tour After Bandmate Kyle Gass Jokes About Trump Assassination Attempt

Bad news for Tenacious D fans. Jack Black just announced on social media that he is canceling their current tour and upcoming concerts in October for Rock the Vote, the nonprofit organization that helps get young people to vote. The news comes after a recent show in Australia where Black’s Tenacious D bandmate made a controversial comment during the performance.
Black brought a cake onstage to celebrate Gass’ 64th birthday and asked him to make a birthday wish. Gass said, “Don’t miss Trump next time.” Black seemingly did not respond but later admitted that he was “blindsided” by the comment.

Black wrote on social media, “I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form. After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”

Fans who already have tickets for their now-canceled upcoming shows will be able to get a refund. Gass was referring to the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump last Saturday, which resulted in one civilian being killed by gunfire and two others critically injured.
Gass has since apologized for his statements in a social media post. He wrote, “The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake. I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgment. I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused.”
