Reboots are all the rage in the 2020s! Euphoria and White Lotus star Sydney Sweeney is set to star in the reboot of the ’60s sci-fi cult classic Barbarella, which was based on a French comic series and starred “sex kitten” era Jane Fonda in the titular role as a feminist hero/space traveler and representative of Earth sent to find a dangerous scientist named Durand Durand who is out to destroy the planet.

Baby Driver director Edgar Wright is in talks to helm the reboot, and screenwriter Jane Goldman is rumored to be in line to write the script along with her daughter, Honey Ross.

Barbarella was not a huge hit at the time of its release in 1968, but catapulted Jane to the most iconic sex goddess of the ’60s. It also inspired the name of the band Duran Duran. Fonda expressed some concern over the remake. “I try not to [think about it],” she told Hollywood Reporter in 2023. “Because I worry about what it’s going to be.”

Perhaps the film will be a modern take on the original? Will Fonda end up making a cameo? Stay tuned as more details come out we will be sure to update you.
