The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is getting pretty crowded these days!

The 2024 inductees, including Cher, Ozzy (as a solo artist) and Peter Frampton, were recently announced along with Mary J. Blige, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Kool & the Gang and A Tribe Called Quest under the Performer category, which honors “artists who have created music whose originality, impact and influence changed the course of rock & roll.” The late Jimmy Buffet, MC5, Dionne Warwick, Norman Whitfield will be honored with the Musical Excellence Award. Lastly John Mayall, the late Alexis Korner and the late Big Mama Thornton will receive the Musical Influence Award.

To be eligible for this milestone honor, an artist or band has to have released its first recording at least 25 years prior to nomination. Not everyone successful gets in either. And some don’t have any interest! Just last December on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Cher shared that she had no interest in being in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, saying “I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars.” It will be interesting to see her reaction to this news. Might she deny her own entry?

Peter Frampton, on the other hand, was ecstatic to be included into the Hall of Fame, an honor that left him “speechless.”

“I think I’m a little bit in shock, and speechless,” Frampton told Billboard. “I never expected this. People always said, ‘You should be in.’ I said, ‘Eh, what is to be,’ y’know? So mixed emotions, because it’s something that I just never expected, whereas other people did for me. (laughs) It’s wonderful.”

“You never quite know how you are regarded,” Frampton added. “I don’t think about that; I just do my thing. But ending up in the number two position blew me away, actually. It’s an honor people regard me in this way. I’m just honored and blown away.”
