Despite being one of the most famous and swoon-worthy men in Hollywood, Tom Selleck would rather spend some quiet time at his California ranch. Right now, he goes home every two weeks to take a break from filming his show Blue Bloods. The CBS hit series is filmed in New York City and is currently in its final season. When Selleck is not working, he loves to read the newspaper and then ride around on his ATV to check on his wildflowers. Life is much slower on his ranch, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.

Selleck got his big break in the 1980s show Magnum, P.I. which earned him an Emmy Award. The role led to highly-coveted guest roles in shows such as Friends and successful films such as High Road to China and Three Men and a Baby. With all of his fame, he certainly could have gotten an inflated ego, but it doesn’t seem to phase him. While he is ready to release his new memoir, he had doubts about writing one at first.

Selleck shared, “I don’t have the hooks that a lot of people do. I didn’t rehabilitate myself or have this tragic life. I had my own share of certainly ups and downs, but I’ve been very fortunate.” Not only has Selleck been lucky in his career, but with his love life. He has been married to his wife Jillie Mack since 1987 (he was previously married to Jacqueline Ray from 1971 to 1982). He has two children, his daughter Hannah with Jillie and his son, Kevin with Jacqueline.

Selleck met his current wife when she was performing in the musical Cats in London. He revealed that he loves their friendship and his favorite thing about Jillie is her sense of humor. When he isn’t spending time with his family and going over Blue Bloods scripts, he says, “A cigar and a glass of whiskey is a nice way to end the day. I’ve had a very good life, a very lucky life. I don’t know if it’s what I figured I’d be doing, but it’s with a lot of gratitude.”

As far as that accidental career? He started in college with a basketball scholarship and majored in business. Acting wasn’t even a thought for Selleck. However, he did a commercial for Pepsi portraying a basketball player and got tapped to do The Dating Game which kickstarted his acting career.

His new memoir (which he wrote in longhand and took four years to complete) You Never Know comes out on May 4, 2024, and you can pre-order it on Amazon.
