Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson Releasing Country Music Album Started in the ’70s
Brian Wilson’s new album has been a long time coming. 2024 seems to be the year of surprising country music album news with artists such as Beyoncé and Post Malone releasing new country music. Now, Beach Boys icon Brian Wilson said that he is releasing a country music album called Cows in the Pasture, dating all the way back to the 1970s and featuring some exciting collaborations. The 81-year-old said that the album will be released sometime in 2025.
Wilson first worked on the album with Beach Boys manager Fred Vail in 1970, who is prominently featured in the album. They are currently putting the finishing touches on it with producer Sam Parker and the album reportedly features appearances from “country music legends, rock & roll legends, and contemporary country and pop stars,” although it has not yet been revealed who these stars are.
This all begs the question, why wasn’t the album released in the ’70s? Reportedly, they recorded most of it but Wilson had a lot of personal things going on at that time and the album ended up getting lost. This could be referring to Wilson’s diagnoses of schizoaffective disorder and mild bipolar disorder around that time. The Beach Boys current management found it in the group’s vault and Vail said that they should keep it.
Vail said, “It’s been a roller coaster. It shows me that the stuff we recorded in April ’70 is timeless. I was really, really proud of this record, and even though it sat in the can for decades, literally, I always was thinking, ‘Man, that’d be great to get back into the studio and finish this thing.’ And now that’s happening.” Wilson added, “Fred always loved country music and he was a big rodeo guy … He’s a hell of a guy, one hell of a promoter, and I’m glad his album is coming out.”
Stay tuned for more updates on the album and tell us, are you excited about it? We can’t wait to learn which stars will be featured on the tracks! The news comes around the same time that Wilson is grieving the loss of his wife. Get more details here:
