Before feisty young writer Hannah Horvath (played hilariously by Lena Dunham) claimed to be the voice of her generation on HBO’s Girls — or, more accurately, “a voice of a generation” — Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory (Alexis Bledel) Gilmore were a voice of a different generation: the early 2000s. The Gilmore Girls were a cultural icon for us millennials. The wit! The humor! The boot-cut jeans and wrap dresses! Who can believe this show premiered over 20 years ago? Not me.
With Netflix picking up the series, and even reviving it for a mini-series in 2016, this classic TV show continues to remain relevant, not only because of streaming. There is something very timeless about this show. No matter how many times I watch it, I get something new out of it. And I have watched it many, many times. Like 10-20 times at least. (Even Milo Ventimiglia, who played Jess, was impressed by — or, perhaps, disturbed by? — how many times I’ve watched this show. I believe his exact words were “Wow. That’s a lot.”) True, but I know I’m not the only one who has returned to Stars Hollow over the years!
